History of the Kings of Britain 17 - Cadwallader Abandons Britain

The 17th and final part of Geoffrey of Monmouth’s History of the Kings of Britain finds the country at it’s lowest ebb ever. The Britons keep fighting among themselves, but by this time the Saxons and Angles are starting to unite together. Cadwallader the last of the British kings, sees a vision of an angel and is told not to return to Britain as the country has been taken from his people as punishment for their bad behaviour. Instead he goes to Rome and renounces all his worldly possessions. His sons Yvor and Yni return, but they are unable to take the island back and Ethelstan of the Saxons is eventually crowned king of the realm, putting an end to nearly two thousand years of rule by the descendants of Brutus.
